Poll answer depends ENTIRELY on the Elise engine choice. For my money it needs to be in the Integra GSR/ITR class (B18B or better) or the Z06 (>400 HP, 3300 lb) is my winner.

It may be a GM product but I would take it in an instant over an Elise. Lotus has never been known for reliability.

Depends on if you want straight up performance or a "cool" car. Personally, I like to go fast.
Oh ya, how many people here actually buy cars according to resale value? I thought cars were meant to be driven.

Vette, but I'm biased. You can drive it every day and not deal with Lotus problems and trying to find someone to work on it. And for a guy who lives downtown, having one car that always works is a priority since parking prohibits having two cars for me. The Z06 is a supercar that you can drive into the ground and not feel bad about it. The Elise is best considered a novelty for cutting corners on a back road 2x per month. Buying an Elise for everyday use is like buying a Viper and expecting to get 200,000 miles out of it. IMHO.

Even though I am an import guy, I say go for a Corvette!! Nothing like high displacement and that v8 motor. In my opinion I think a Corvette looks better then the Elise. =) I must say though... your going to want reliability and so on. If you can get both cars, but if you can't drive both cars and see for yourself.

If you're going to drive it as a street car, for fun and have some time on the track, the Z06, if its going to be jsut a track car, the elise, at least thats how i'd do it the Z06 is a much nicer car in everything except pure track performance, and if built right it will give the elise a run anyway, perhaps not quite as fast but damned close for weighing as much more as it does.

The Z06 would still lose the Elise easily on a track. The Elise is just cool b/c it's exclusive and fun to corner with. It doesn't have the power to keep up with a Z06 on a track. Maybe in an autocross.
