Congrats! I don't think you can really go wrong with either car. Tell us about the S2000 - is it new? What colors? Where'd you get it? How was the customer service there? Sad as it might seem, there are still some Honda dealerships initially asking for over MSRP on S2000s.

Also, if you'd like to meet several S2000 owners and see our cars on a track, come out to Motorsport Ranch (www.motorsportranch.com) this coming weekend. If you'd like to drive your car, we're having an autocross at Mineral Wells the Saturday after. (https://www.s2ki.com/forums/showthread.php?...&threadid=79532)

What car did you have before? And do you know any other 350Z owners? I'm trying to get some of those cars out to the autocross so we can check them out.

Hopefully prospective buyers will not be willing to pay the jacked-up price of Nissan's latest Z; however, as long as they are willing to do so (probably in droves), dealers will continue to take advantage (Just like with the S). Give them a couple of years to ramp up production and you should be able to get one somewhat closer to MSRP as well as a convertible version.

$42k....wow. I hope nobody's stupid enough to pay that much for that dime-a-dozen car. Some people with money just amaze me sometimes.

This is a repost, but the sentiment fits this thread:

A month ago, I spoke with a Nissan dealer in Jacksonville, FL who had a different spin on gouging. They'll sell the 350Z for list price (plus a $500 mark up), *IF* you're willing to give them a non-refundable $1000 deposit.

In other words, you either buy the car when it comes in, or you forfeit $1000. Since they didn't have a demo to drive, I asked what would happen if I didn't like the Z-car I've ordered, once I've had a chance to drive it. I was told that I'd be out $1000, and the next person in line would get the car.

This practice sounds only slightly better than the Bay area dealer asking a $10K mark up, and it still leaves a bitter taste. Two years from now, when everyone and their brothers own 350Z's, and the same dealers have difficulty moving the merchandise off their lots, I hope that these dealers sink back into the slime.

Regrettably, this practice isn't limited to Nissan. When the E46 M3 hit the market, dealers in Miami and Fort Myers were also charging $10K over list. One of the Honda dealers in the Jacksonville area also charges well over list for S2K's (although they were willing to sell me a used '02 with 8Kmi for the sticker price of a new '02 S2K--what a deal).

Is that 45,000 units on the "dealer BS scale", like Honda will only make 5,000 S2K's this year, and it's the last year?
