where to stay and what to do for a 5 day vacation to LA?
Hi. I am trying to plan a mid March 5-6 day vacation to the LA area. Where would i want to stay and do? I am a total hillbilly and plan to go to Vegas for the MONSTER TRUCK NATIONALS on that saturday night then drive back to LA to fly out the next day.
anyway.... Beach? Hollywood? Malibu? what is there to see in LA besides traffic and fake breasteses? Is Rob Derdick (like i can spell) Fantasy Factory open to the public?
What Hotel is close enough to everything? I will have a rental car.
any help is appreciated.

LA......
Not really something I consider a vacation.
The problem also with this area is you have to drive a lot in general to experience everything.

Good thing you have a rental car -- that is a must.
I would recommend you study maps ahead of time to get an idea of which city is where.
Basically Hollywood is touristy (Kodak Theater, etc) but fun for a visit.
Tons of bus tours which might be fun for you but we all find very annoying.
Beverly Hills is nice to drive through and oogle at the exotic car dealerships.
Beaches are excellent (less populated) in Malibu, but your sons would probably like Venice or Santa Monica as they are a little more touristy and Venice is a complete freak show.
Universal Studios is great for a tour, as is Warner Brothers (near each other).
NBC has Leno which is a good time (and free)...also nearby.
Let Yelp guide you for restaurants.
Hope that helps.

The first thing you should do when you get to LA is go straight to an In-N-Out, get you and your family some double doubles with animal style fries . As for sight seeing I would say Universal Studios is a great place for a family trip and the beach isn't all that great in March. Hopefully the NBA will have a deal by then and you guys can probably catch a Laker game .
