Default Wheel set up question for the Cali Crew

I posted a question on the wheel forum about Volk GT-7's in 18's

https://www.s2ki.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=225383

please chime in with your wheel/tire set up with offsets. I need to know if you have any issues and what NOT to get and what works fine.

I'm trying to decide if I really need to go with 18's or if I should stick with 17's.

Thanks...

The general concensus seems to be that if you wanna bling/pose, then 18s can be done. The weight of them really woks against performance though. Jack (Wongawa screen name) has some Volk CE28 rims with some Falken Tires. PM him for specifics. He did have some rubbing though and needs to get his fenders rolled.

If you still want performance, then stick with 17s rims as the largest. Not too much weight and you can cut the sidewalls down quite a bit from the stock sizes.

Lets see what the others have to say.

That seems to be the general consensus.

I guess 18's are just too much hassle...... I'm still waiting on some inputs.

If not....I have to research the whole 17" setup........***sigh***

I'm a firm believer of "paying the cost to be the boss".......18's are sweet. I've always had them on my eclipse's.

I'm curious though........the dimensions on the >03 and 04 wheel wells are all the same right?....

FYI,
I did my calipers last week.........
Note to self: should have paid Hockey to do it.......

Thanx bud! You know I would have too, but sometimes you gotta let the kids learn their own lessons...... LOL (kidding, ofcourse).

Yeah, if you only did one wheel at a time, that woulda made it a huge pain. Hope the results were good though. I wanna see them!!!!

Peace,
David

My thoughts-
Anything larger than a 16" wheel is bling.
I would prefer to have a wider rim than a larger diameter rim.
The only reason to upgrade wheels is if you are upgrading rotor or caliper size. That being said, there are ways to upgrade size (diameter) without giving up too much in performance. Even a lighter larger wheel can REDUCE the real world hp numbers since more of the mass is farther out from the center of the wheel.
At the end of the day, it is your car, your money and your decision.
To quote Colin Chapman "...first add lightness..."
