Default Whats the best "big screen" TV?

I know you guys like the finer things in life...and the fact that most of us own S2000's tell me that you also like to get the most "bang for the buck".

With that in mind I thought I would ask your opinion on what type and brand you think is the BEST big screen TV...for the money.

I'm leaning towards the Sony 60in LCD:

What do you guys/gals think?

I know that LCD Flatscreen is the best...but 4500.00 for 30in...is just plain silly.

I look forward to your input.

Thanks

Rambler

Best TV: comes in at 82" of viewing pleasure and weighs in at a quarter of a ton, or the less dramatic weight of 500lbs.

Not a bad choice, much better than the overhyped XBR models, but if you can settle for a smaller screen, you should get a Panasonic 42" Plasma instead. The picture quality is so much better. Go to a store and look at them side-by-side and you'll know what I mean.

Sony XBR = This is what I got Sony KV-34XBR800. The picture quality is hard to beat. But the TV itself is heavy, 200lbs.

If you are gonna get a plasma, dont get the 852 X 480 resolution anymore.

This is a nice one.

I have a few plasmas, and LCD just doesn't compare for home theater. Plasma is much brighter with better black levels and color saturation, and is completely viewable from any angle unlike LCD which diminishes in quality. Plasma does use more electricity, however. In addition, LCD is just not quick enough for high-end video and gaming. Here is a handy reference on the comparison:

http://www.plasmatvbuyingguide.com/plasmat...sma-vs-lcd.html

That is not to say that ALL plasmas are better than LCD. There are a lot of really really crappy plasmas out there, like the Gateway/Sampo; these are cheap, and side-by-side they look it too. We do use LCDs on all of our computers, though.

Circuit City/Best Buy/Good Guys have too much markup.

I have been toying with the idea of upgrading my 50" RCA Scenium Plasma to a 62", it is 1.5 years old (plasma life is measured in decades) and in perfect condition. The RCA is actually a rebadged NEC. If you know anyone looking for one, I could sell if for $4800 - the price would be firm, I am just as happy keeping it and not spending all the extra money for the upgrade. Here is a picture of the 50" next to the 42" when I was first installing it. The flash washed out the picture, but you get the idea:

I agree with oatnet. He's obviously done lots of research like I did. I got most of the info here:

http://www.avsforum.com/

I got the Panasonic ED commercial version 42" plasma which is $1,000 cheaper than the consumer version. They are exactly the same except the commercial version has no speakers and tuner. You use your home theater system and cable box/direct TV for that anyhow.
