What is the proper top-down behavior?

STOP! you have a bad driver's regulator/switch. Check the library for the TSB, print it, take it to you dealer, and have them fix it.
otherwise you can do the switch reset trick:
roll window all the way up, hold switch up for 10 secs. roll window down all the way, hold switch down till you hear a 'click' that should fix it for a while.

Nice. I should have looked there first. I'm afraid of dealers now though after reading several recent threads here, haha!

My '02 did this 1 month out of warranty, but my dealer replaced the window regulator for me under "good will". Prior to that, the reset trick worked a few times, but then it went kaput.
Most dealers are pretty cool about it. Good luck .

I had this fixed under warrantee. Two years later it started happening again. I guess the replacement relays are just as defective as the originals. Screw it! I just put the windows down myself before the roof.
