Funny how some are OCD clean and some are OCD dirty.

My area of research and clinical work is anxiety disorders (specific phobias like fear of flying, post traumatic stress disorder, generalized anxiety disorders (people who worry all the time about everything), panic disorder (have panic attacks and get freaked out about having them), and.... OCD.

clean v. dirty depends on the underlying thought/obsession. Not all who are clean are b/c they are worried about cleanliness. Some are (e.g., afraid of germs/AIDS/etc), and some clean as a ritual. The compulusion also varies. There are many, many variations of OCD - religious rituals, sexual obsessions/compulsions, cleaning, doing things 'just right', etc.

oh - treatment can be quite effective, and is relatively short term - maybe 25 sessions on average with cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), which has been shown to have the highest efficacy of all therapy types.
