Post What to do in SoCal?

Hi everyone,

I think a few of us are making a cali run next month, around Mid September. Most of us have not been to SoCal before, so we were wondering what are some good tourist spots to check out and see. What do we HAVE to see if we are in LA?

We are going to be getting into LA around noon on a Monday and staying until Wednesday morning.

Thanks in advance for all the advice

Hollywood is probably what a lot of us would say. Then Beverly Hills, Disneyland.... That's all I can think of for now.

Just visit the following sites:

LA.com

and/or

Metromix.com - Choose Los Angeles and browse

Those two sites will be your key to finding the best food and tourists sites.

Thanks for the advice.

I probably know the answer to this, but what is a good time to head into or out of the city to avoid the most possible traffic?

As usual, depending on crashes and such, try to drive in/out between 11am and 4pm at the latest.

check out LAist for upcoming events in the city.

as mentioned before, the beach is almost a must at this time of the year. disneyland if you're into that or even universal studios is always good. check out hollywood to do the tourist thing...

i think there was a thread on here couple weeks/months back about places to eat down here....

The input has been great. Thanks. The age range is 23-32, all single guys. Prob not gonna head to Vegas since we are already driving from Portland. Most of us don't really drink but hitting the clubs would be fun.

Try Dockweiler/Playa Del Rey Beauuutiful beaches with volleyball nets if u like playing vball. Not crowded, and very clean.

Santa Monica Pier if you want to check out a "polluted" yet glorified version of a beach.

Best times to drive on weekdays to avoid traffic: before 7:00AM between 11am and 2:30pm, then after 8pm. Always check googlemaps/bing maps/sigalert for traffic updates. One accident that screw you up massively.

Theme parks to try: 6 Flags Magic Mountain, Knotts Berry Farm + Medieval Times, Disneyland (of course)

look for deals on craigslist and meet up with local sellers to save $$$$.

If u do want to gamble, check out Morongo Casino/"resort" and the nearby outlet malls.
