What area to stay in LA?
I fly into LA tomorrow and I'm booking a hotel last minute to try and get a deal. I'm looking at 2 and 3 star hotels around $100. here are the areas the hotels are located in:
Los Angeles Airport (LAX)
Los Angeles Downtown
South Bay
Pasadena
Hollywood
Santa Monica & Marina Del Rey
Universal Studios - Burbank
Woodland Hills Area
Beverly Hills
West Covina
Norwalk - Whittier
Valencia - Stevenson Ranch
Any areas to avoid?
keep in mind I will probably be parking my new car outside at night... I don't want to wake up to a slashed convertible.

I live in West Covina...so that is my vote...but it really depends on WHERE you are planing to go and how much time you want to spend driving. Pasadena is only about 12 miles from my house...I can get there in 20mins with no traffic...but it can also take me over an hour WITH traffic.
So don't let mapquest fool you...in LA distance does NOT equal time...TAFFIC equals time.
Try your best to go EAST in a.m and WEST in p.m...if at all possiable.
And if your thinking "that's cool, I got my S2k and don't mind sitting in traffic"....get back to me when your trip is complete and see if you feel the same way. Your left calf will be much stronger when your done with your visit.
Have fun and welcome to the City of Angels.

if you wanna have fun, stay in hollywood.
if you wanna surf, I vote for Huntington Beach (north orange county, about 40 minutes from downtown LA). There is a surf school @ bolsa chica and there are tons of OC hotties on Main St (where the pier is) on weekends. Especially THIS weekend. If you are here for the entire weekend, you are in luck.
If you want some info, PM and I'll get you all the info.
There are lots of good surf spots, but only the popular beaches have rentals and even fewer have lessons. Just DON'T surf Santa Monica. That place is gross.
If you're new to LA, I definitely wouldn't recommend any of these areas:
Los Angeles Airport (LAX)
South Bay
West Covina
Norwalk - Whittier
