Wanting to do gearing
#21
Am I sure about my ideal setup....yes You’re never going to have one gear fits “all”….I would love to swap diffs for a given track
With a ~8300 rev limit (2.2) and AP1 trans, I’m right at the limit before the need to shift at certain areas at a track like BW. If you check the gear Calc. it’s definitely not like AP2 gearing and will give a slight gear advantage in 1-4 and a very nice 5th gear pull on an AP2 for the straights and going around Riverside to Lost Hil
Most top out about 110-114 @ BW, that’s right before the need to shift to 6th in AP1 trans and the AP2 still has 16-12mph till rev limit.
I cant think of any area I would shift more other than coming down from Lost Hill (I am currently at the limit in 4th @~104 and do not carry enough speed yet to shift to 5th)
I’m not looking for an all out race gear, but something that gives an advantage and isn’t going to kill me on the freeway

On the side note: Road bike cyclist usually rides at 90-110 cadence now a day, the sport science shows the higher cadence with lower gearing actually enable high performance with less "energy" consumed. Most newbie roadie will ride couple gears too high because they are not using to "spinning", they end up burning their legs early.

I've had 4.77s for the last 100k+ miles and love them. I just recently combined them with an AP2 trans (15k miles) and am enjoying them even more. I had Elton at Raceline build my last set and they lasted roughly 100k miles before they needed replacement. When he installed the gears, I just reused the other parts but I would not do that again. This time I just had Science of Speed rebuild with new gears, shims, bearings, etc and it ended up costing me about $1100. I also recommend staying away from used diffs. I've been trying to get my money back from a SoCal member that sold me a bad diff for almost a year now.

I'm tempted to really see how the 4.77s are. Anyone have one on their car around LA/OC area? I would love to be able to see how it is before I go ahead and get it.

The rsx during it's MMC in 2005 got an upgrade from a 4.4FD to a 4.76FD to mirror the R version sold elsewhere and unanimously everyone found this to be preferable.
The 05 DC5R with a six speed has a 8400 redline and a 146 mph top speed which is comparable to the 4.57FD upgrade in the S
The 4.57 Richmond and ricks gears are noisy as hell though because there not a correct match to the pinion, the 4.4 or 4.7 cryo rem treated will be my next mod since I drive terrain more than anything. probably the 4.7
