Default Visiting America

Hey crew

Planning on holidaying in America mid year. We are flying directly into LA, I was wondering if there are any reccomendations on places to see/visit while we in LA ?

Also , we plan to hire a car and drive to Vegas, can anyone recommend a car company for cheap car hire that we can drop off in Vegas ? As we plan to fly out of Vegas directly to Chicago.

Any help is much appreciated

Hello, it doesn't sound like you're going to be coming up to the bay area. Unless you wanted Kristines expertise on socal, I can leave the thread here so she can post otherwise it might be better suited in the socal section.
Let me know if you'd like me to move it to the socal forum.

Thanks
Mac

i would try to go to a lakers game, just to feel the atmosphere and the feeling. and then a dinner and then a club. the next day go to long beach or some sort of place like that and maybe either disneyland or universal studios. and drive to vegas (get the car from a company that you can drop off at vegas, enterprise, avis, budget such companies like that)
at vegas i would stay at a nice hotel as well just because you wont be going there anytime soon again.
book the car you want to get online and pay it online , prices will be a bit more cheaper. you know your arriving date right? so i would book it right away

thanks heaps for the tips so far guys !

Im a massive sneaker head (Air Jordans) so i will be on the hunt for some when i am there .

And definitely looking at going to an NBA Game . Is it hard to get tickets ? is it possible to just rock up on game day and score tickets at the box office ?

I work for Marriott in Australia, so i will be staying at Marriott hotels across the US.

Yeah, planning on going on the Hollywood tour etc

Not sure if the box office would have tickets for a Laker game. I would try Ticketmaster.com to secure them before, or use ebay.com.

Things to do, add Griffith Park Observatory to that list IMO.

These are the places most people visit.

*Disneyland
*Universal Studios
*City Walk (bars/clubs)
*Hollywood Blvd
*Sunset Blvd (at night, clubs/bars)
*Melrose Blvd
*Magic Castle
*Getty Museum
*Peterson Automotive Museum
*Malibu Coast Line
*Pacific Coast Hwy
*Griffith Park / Observatory
*Rodeo Dr. (mostly snooty stores)
*Santa Monica Beach
*Venice Beach
*Big Bear Mountain (about 2 hours east of LA)
*Laker Game (someone mentioned)
*Laguna Beach (lunch, dinner)

These are probably the most popular touristy spots. Las Vegas is about 3 1/2 hours from LA. Plane tickets are pretty inexpensive to fly from LA to Vegas. You might be better off just flying than driving. Unless you plan on visiting Big Bear, then the Barstow outlets along the way. In my opinion, you better off skipping them and flying straight to Vegas.
