well if he bought a used cylinder head, a headgasket kit, and all the fluids.. it could be a 1 day deal.

do you need a new cylinder head? can't you just get new valves, and pay for the labor?

If you go this route I would make sure the head is pressure tested on all the ports and it be sent out for resurface. Otherwise you may be putting on another head with bent valves or worse. S2k valve guides are very weak and should always be inspected too.
