The new TRON looks awesome. Just watched the original for the first time a few nights ago. What a great concept, too bad they only had 1982 graphics. Still loved it though.

Major disappointment. Don't get your hopes up.
4.5/10
Almost nothing worked for me...the 3D was blurry and didn't work to my eyes, the "world" was black and flat (polar opposite to "Avatar") the dialogue was pointless and never-ending (think "Legion")...I'm sad.
At least I didn't have to pay for the tickets.

dave, which 3d did you watch?
im getting shit from fanboys for criticizing the plot. what did you think? im saying the themes of humans being imperfect is SO overused in scifi, and the plot twists were so obvious, even if there was no real build up. but then its just a disney movie so i guess i shouldnt have expected more. the pacing was WAY too slow. it always felt like something big was gonna happen... and then when something big DID happen... the pace was the same. except the bar scene, but then it was killed when the Dude shows up... and does nothing.
i liked the action sequences a lot tho. 3D worked for me and it was immensely more creative than avatar.
and NO, you dont need to see the first one. they explain everything you need to know and even the subtle tie-ins to the past (and probably future sequel like cillian murphys cameo as son of dillinger, who was the main antagonist in tron) werent that big a deal.
what you should know is that Tron is basically Alans (the old chairman that gives Sam the keys in the beginning) digital counterpart. like Flynn's counterpart is Clu. and he was a good guy that helped flynn out in the first movie. they gloss over this quickly but honestly, its not a big deal unless youre wondering why the movie is even titled tron.

I couldn't agree MORE about the plot, pacing, etc.
I don't want to be too negative as, well...it's political.
But even the 'action' scenes were confusing and ambiguously hard to interpret.
What was at stake? How many good guys were there? Bad guys?
And what was with Tron?
Let me summarize my opinion by saying that there were NO emotional peaks/valleys, NO build-up to any kind of payoff, and yes -- the use of 'genocide' and fascism was a bit much. Acting was wooden, but it was so fraught with dialogue that MEANT NOTHING...I should stop.
I think Olivia Wilde was 4 of the 4.5/10 I'd rate the movie.
Her in those shiny black pants were worth the price of admission.

i saw it in "disney real 3d". black tinted polarized lens. shrug.
i understood what the writers were trying to do with introducing rinnzler, so much that it just made it stupidly obvious. i wont say anymore either. let ppl try to enjoy it. i just came out of it thinking the movie wasnt meant for me, it was for 12 year olds.
