Tough Career decision...need advice please

Default Tough Career decision...need advice please

Currently I am working in commercial auto insurance (auto dealers and such). My company hired me to train for a year and then relocate me to take over management of one of our field offices nationwide. I am coming up on a year and in a week I am flying to Minneapolis so our Vice President can interview me for our Chicago or New Jersey office. This would mean double salary and company car. I love what I currently do.

Dilemma...I studied Criminology and Forensics in college and now I have a good opportunity to get into the FBI. I know a couple of Special Agents that are willing to pull some strings to help me get in. This has always been a dream of mine and to serve my country would be a great honor. It would pay what I am currently making for a couple of years and would be a lot of hard work (not a problem).

The problem is, my current company has spent a lot of money and time training me in insurance. I have also worked my a$$ off this year to get where I am. I would feel like a complete jerk if I left my company now.

What to do????

Do what you have always wanted to do, and do what you enjoy because if you do something just for the money, you won't really be happy. Not to mention, if you do what you enjoy, people tend to be more successful at that then what they don't like and you'll have fun while you're doing it.

I say go for the FBI. Few people really get to have deams become a reality. If this is something that you have always wanted then go for it. You didnt sign your life away to this current job. They may be a little miffed but sometimes you gotta do what ya gotta do.

The immediate financial reward in the public sector is not always as competitive as in the private sector. However, there are measureable and well as immeasurable benefits in taking a public-sector job. For example, I am reading and typing this because today is my alternate Friday off. There are less stress and more holidays. You also have protection as a civil servant employee. Your job is more secured. The long-term retirement benefits are usually better. For me, it boils down to work enviroment, stress level and joy of what I do.

As a footnote, don't let the fact that your company spent a lot of money in training you as a prevention from leaving. Your company can fire you tomorrow if it's not going well, a take-over or a new boss moves in. We are not in Japan!

In order to pass the PFT, SA Applicants and NATs must achieve a minimum cumulative score of 12 points with at least one point in each of the four events.

At the FBI Academy, you will also be administered standard (male) pull-ups as the fifth and final event of the PFT. However, the score on pull-ups will not be used for pass/fail purposes. The Training Division will use the pull-up scores for fitness award purposes, including the 50-point award. The scoring scale for standard pull-ups is set forth below:

That is a MINIMUM(RED) to move on, but as it states 12 points, means you need to hit the (BLUE) range. This are athlete's numbers, you're going to need a trainer ASAP. I'll talk to Eug. if you want a 24hr fitness pass. To get in this shape, you need at least 6-7 months of CONSTANT training, no more juice and soda, No more Fast food. Fish/Lean Means only.

More notes:
Salary Range: $40,419 (GS 10) Academy Training. Upon graduation, locality and availability pay will also be added.

Salary is bogus, to risk your life. But i guess it's the presitige.

Its a tough program. They'll be looking at your medical records too.
