It's scary to know how easy it is for our information to be accquired now a days.
I only use the flashlight app that comes with the iPhone.
Hopefully, this isn't linked to any mallware.

You could look at the permissions for the apps and pick one that doesn't have access to the GPS or anything. Tiny Flashlight just has access to your camera to turn on the flash and that's basically it.

I use Flashlight by flash-the-brain.com. Very small footprint, and it allows me to choose between just lighting up the display all white or using the LEDs. The benefit of having the option of using the display is when you are in a restaurant or other location where you might just need a little extra light to read the menu or something but don't want to blind everyone around you with your super bright LED flash. Or in a theater trying to see the stairs in the dark but not wanting to piss off other theater-goers.

The company snoopwall is a cyber security company, that being said there is some biased opinions being flung around. Not to say malware doesn't exit in apps but it is just dramatize much like the currently non-existent Ebola Virus.

For samsung android users, there's a built-in widget called torch. It just turns the led flash on/off, no need to download a flashlight app.
