Default For those putting aftermarket seats in your 2006

Looks like putting aftermarket seats in the 2006 aren't as easy as it would be for the 2000-2005 S2000's. Couple weeks back, we at SP Engineering tried putting aftermarket seats in a 2006 S2000. We ran into a couple issues that made the installation a bit difficult. We found a sensor located beneath the driverside seat that allows the airbag to deploy a certain amount depending on how close/far the driver sits from the steering wheel. On the passengerside, we found a different sensor that picks up the passengers' weight - in case an underweight passenger were to get in an accident, the airbag would not deploy.

We did manage to mount the Bride seat on the driverside without any problems, but on the passengerside, the bracket holes did not line up. Even if the mounting points were to line up, the brace that goes from one side of the seat rail to the other would hit a taller hump on the 2006 floor panel. Honda must have done this to prevent 2006 owners from installing 00-05' seats as it would defeat the purpose the 06' safety features.

As of now, you could install an aftermarket driverseat without triggering the SRS light. Just wanted to let the members know before they run into these issues. Hope this helps.

Sounds like the seat would need to be custom fab'd into the passenger side, correct?

What did you end up doing for this 2006? Did you install an aftermarket seat?

Can the 2006 seats be just bolted down for the earlier year models?

^ Driver's seat yes, passenger's seat no. The seat rail on the passenger seat is different, so you'd have to custom fab it.

In your sig you said you have "seats". How'd you get two in there?

I had the passenger seat rail modified. You'll see it on Monday.
