Thinking about moving to San Deigo
#1
Hello San Diegan's.
I just got back from vacation this long weekend, and your city is AWESOME! I was born and raised in Honolulu, and it felt so much like home, I couldnt believe it.
If you dont mind me asking, how is the job market in the San Diego area? Poking around the internet, there seems to be a lot of job postings. I can do EE and ME work.
My big concern, is what is the downside to living there? I checked the cost of living, and its really not that bad (comparing to LA and San Fran/San Jose). If I rent, I just need a 6% salary increase from where I live now (which is Austin, TX - it is very affordable here). I'm amazed that more people dont live there. You have great scenary, great weather, and great restaurants (I stayed in the Gas Lamp district, and it was fantastic). You are close to LA also. Please let me know if you "dislike" anything about SD.
Other than that, my GF and I are almost ready to quit are jobs (we hate them anyway) and just pick up and move down there
It seems to be a very active city. Do you guys have places to ride mountain bikes? How many of you head up to Street of Willows and Willow Springs for track days? Is there an active auto-x scene in SD? And do you guys have a place to do indoor go-karting (I'm in a league now, and its the best)?
Thanks for any advice, I really appreciate it. Also, which areas do you recommend living in?
BTW- I was eating at a sushi restaurant named "Taka" in the Gas Lamp district, and saw a Black/Black S2K, the only one I saw all weekend.

San Diego has their own club .... http://www.sdka.com/
I live up in LA and race LA Kart Club (http://www.lakc.org) and the Rotax Max MyChron3 Cup Series (http://eracingoutlet.com/rotax/series/index.html) but there are many more kart clubs than that. Gold Coast Karters runs Willow Springs, Tri-C Karters are moving from the old Adams track to the new Moran Raceway opening soon, So Cal Sprinters run at Adams. KRC also runs Willow Springs.
Local tracks in San Diego are: Cajon and Amago.
In the Los Angeles area they are: Grange, Willow, Buttonwillow, Perris, Moran, Adams, Irwindale, and I think Rialto runs an oval series.
One indoor track I know of at http://www.Dromo1.com.
