They could have always seek the public for help. Now the kids are going to be fatherless, and the wife is going to be a widow. And what can $750,000.00 get them?

Again, I'd say seeking for public assistance is best. In situations like this, you don't have to man it out and put all the burden on yourself... It's sad to hear this, but that's one brave but dumb husband/father...
