I just sold my 99 Tacoma PreRunner to Carmax for 7000.
I had a bunch of aftermarket stuff on it and they actually recommended me to remove the parts. They told me that it wont increase their estimate in any way, so its better if i remove the parts and sell it to make some extra cash.
I was pretty shocked they offered $500 below the bluebook value of my truck in 'excellent' condition. From the rumors i hear, if your vehicle is in good condition carmax should pay a pretty reasonable amount. But you should def. try to sell it privately first...
Good luck!

if your going through carmax or dealership, its better to put it stock, because they will not give you more for your modified parts unless it benefits them, like stereo or crap like that...I recommend sell everything adn then sell it to them, you will get more money in your pocket it that way...

As someone who sold their car in August, I recommend to go private first. I went to Carmax and they made all these claims about my car that were untrue. They didn't even bother with a remotely close KBB offer. They're thieves and liars. I actually sold my car through this website. It was painless and my car went to a great S2k guy that will take good car of it.
