automatic or quartz (battery, eco drive or kinetic, then analog, digital, analog/digital)?

function (chronograph, GMT)?

sports or dressy or something in between?

big (+44mm), med (around 42mm) or regular (>40mm)? (also depends on what's your wrist size can handle)

what do you want more? bang for bucks or brand recognition?

for about $1k, i will try to look for a fine example of used Omega SMP full size (auto is preferred, but quartz will be cheaper to buy), its good for both sports and dressy

if you want a tough sports watch, and you will military style watch, check out the marathon SAR (http://www.countycomm.com/sar-d.htm) marathon SAR has the dive watch done right

if you are fans of casio and high tech watch, there are a few example of Casio G-Shock with the street price of around $1000 (http://www.g-shock.jp/products/mrg_theg.html) you will have to get them online though cause they are japan only models.

Oris TT1 200m and Fortis also offers plenty of models around or below $1000 (stree price)

if you like great bang for bucks divers watches (automatic or quartz), check out Seiko and Citizen, they have a huge line of watches that fits into your price range.

if you want to start a watch collection, you will have to consider the future cost as well. not a lot of people can drop $20k to have a few Panerai, while $1000 can get you to start with a couple of nice seiko or citizen. and also depends on how comfortable to wear a $5k watch (or maybe even $1k). they can be beautiful to look at, but some people can bring themselves to wearing them cause they are too afraid of scratching them.

I got 1st edition Seamaster Bond Watch if you want to buy. Automatic. Only thing you need is a new bezel and polish and I can hook that up for you via Nolan. Box and papers will be provided. Automatic.

Bezel is faded like mentioned. Mechanically perfect.
