I just sold my FJR to a REALLY old dude (late 60's) who wondered if it has enough stick. I hope he lives long enough to enjoy it!

i think that if you work the numbers and you spend a total of $6000 (bike, gear, insurance for one year etc) then divide it by say $60 (for each fill up) that like 100 tanks full of gas. and on top of that you still need to put gas in the bike for a year (all be it less than a car i'm sure). i don't know how much you drive but how long will it take you till you actually see a savings based on the fact that you would have to use 100 tanks full of gas. not sure if there is much of a savings here.

Wow you trusted your life on $500.00 gear . How much was your helmet 150? What about your gloves 50? Your leather 200? and you said you had riding pants too 100?
all '03 prices:
Made in Japan, Snell, BSI cert OGK FF4 = $200
Firstgear ventilated leather jacket w/ CE shoulder/elbow AND BACK protector = $100
Alpinestar SP2 = $50
Italian-made Diodora full length boots = $90
Firstgear mesh/leather pants CE thigh + knee = $60
~$500

I've also bought a brand spankin' new HJC CL15 for $50. and another one for $70

recently got another whole set of gears for about the same (RF1000 = $200, cortech leather jacket $90 w/ full CE, Kobe full gauntlett gloves $30, Oxstar TCS $100, Tourmaster textile = $30. still less than $500)

motorcyclecloseouts.com is your friend. ditto to as someone mentioned newenough.com

'02 Civic EPA is 28 mixed? (which is total BS, so say 25 the way we actually drive). my 650cc bike runs an excel-calcuated 53-55mpg. w/ a modern 250/500, much more than that.

i'm not gonna bother adding STUPID costs like "coolant" flushes / plugs / tires since the labor/costs are minimal. i can easily get 12K mi on my commuter bike's tires if you can get 50K mi on your car tires. *cough* *cough*

Yes. You're still out playing in traffic at 30+ MPH. Helmet, jacket, pants, boots, gloves.

Lots of people skip the pants, some skip the boots. But I'd rather sweat than bleed and skin grafts aren't cheap either! Same deal for full-face versus half-helmet. Your chin will touch something in a high percentage of get-offs.

yah, i wear full suit every time out. the squids look at me all crazy, but we'll see who need skin grafts one day and who doesn't.

in this weather the squid squad is out in full force, I saw two squid in short almost got hit running a red light(right hand turn)

250will land you over 50mpg easy but again you spend as much on gear as the bike.
