Ricks gives a short feel, but is not a true short shifter. Real short shifters are most of the times the same height as an OEM shifter. It shortens the distance to get into gear. Mis-shifting could be a problem, but you just need to get used to the big change of how the clutch and throw will be unbalanced from OEM spec.

Actually, from my experience, real short shifters increase the length below the pivot point, while decreasing the length above the pivot point. Basically, they're decreasing leverage, which is why the shift knob sits lower, but it requires more effort to shift.

I had one on my Integra, but haven't found the need on the S2000: The stock shifter is great for me as is. Search S2000 Talk for "RPSS", there should be a GIGANTIC thread/discussion about the development of a particular short shifter, that I believe is for sale through Rick's.

Also, if you're grinding gears with the stock shifter, you need to change your driving/shifting habits. If you can't shift properly with one of the best gearboxes on the PLANET, don't expect a short shifter to change any of that.

Ooooh, look: New Smilies!

UNHEALTHY

I like the shifter throws as it is but I wish they felt tighter/more mechanical. I don't know if my description made any sense..

alot of short shifter make crappy shift feel, yes the throw is shorter but it make the smooth shifting action to a up right up or down left down motion.

make it short is easy, make it work is hard.

What I do recommend is a countersunk or heavy shift knob, you'll notice a difference with that IMO.
