You are not necessarily condemned because there is forgiveness.
This often leads to the inane argument

But anyone with half a brain can realize that God is no dummy. He knows our hearts. If you repent, you also "die to self", discarding your old self, old life. A person who has done this will be saved, according to God's promises in the Scriptures.

wow, i can't think of a valid non religious reason to deny two people who are not related the power to get married or what ever the state calls the union. If that prevents you from being gay or getting married because your god tells you so, fine whatever. If your god or church tells you that the earth is 6000 years old or that slavery is cool or that pork is terrible I'm o.k. with that. AS LONG AS YOU KEEP IT IN YOUR CHURCH.
