Default Salvage title

Hey guys,

I was involved in an accident a couple of months ago (not my fault and thank God it wasn't the S) and my insurance declared my car as a total loss. I decided to buy it back and fix it and have been using it as my daily driver. I am the registered owner and does not have any plans on selling it.

Question:

Do I have to take care of any documents for DMV if Im not selling it?

Also, do I have to talk to my insurance company about anything? or can I just wait before my insurance contract expires and tell them about it? Or do I have to sign up now for a revised contract or something?

Thanks in advance!

vhin

There is DMV paperwork involved and I believe it has to go through a CHP inspection. Call them and they can guide you.

At time of salvage title, your insurance company should of taken that pink from you and issued you new paper work for you to register it as a salvage title with DMV.

^^ As far as CHP inspection, you can just go to any gas station that does DOT Headlight and Tail Lamp Inspections (dmv will require this).

Dang, I was hoping that I wouldn't have to go thru this since Im not selling or something. I already have the forms and instructions, but I have to set appointment with CHP to see its road worthiness and pay the fees.

BTW, is there a time frame to do this, Im thinking if I can wait till my next registration to save on registration fees.

Thanks again for you inputs

It's best if you take care of this asap, there might be penalty's involved for failing to notify status of vehicle condition to DMV.
