Personally I hated driving the S in LA. The road conditions are horrible and you'll get dings and dents everywhere. It's literally inevitable! I don't even know where to start with my long track record. If you can afford it, get a DD. If not, make sure you park in the new parking structure. It's much safer.
Your track records begun here: 02 Berlina Black - R.I.P. fallen at Angeles Crest on 7/11/04

I see more AMGs and M's in the parking lot. Horror stories applies when you stuff a SUV at compact spots. (I'll be the one keying)

Eh..you should be alright, I know a few friends with M/Z/G/RX7 etc at USC and nothing happened to them so far. I, on the other hand, got my antenna stolen 4 times and door dings at CalPoly

Had the S through undergrad and grad school. Lessons learned:

do not valet (meter park)
get a garage or at least covered parking where you live
don't drive everywhere, carpool with friends when going out
watch for raised manhole covers/potholes
if possible take public transport or ride with friends
keep nothing visible in the car, keep radio door closed
don't bump music and attract attention on your way home

Pretty obvious stuff but kept my car in good condition.

Just keep it. LA isn't bad. You'll be surprised when you see exotic cars there. I've seen several.

Do you know where you are going to live? If so, definitely check out the parking situation. Most of the apt. parking spaces in the area were super shady. Maybe invest in a USC parking pass ($400) if you live off campus. I've seen a couple of S2000s on campus, but mostly during the day. Probably commuters.

But honestly, if you're going to have to worry about your car 24/7, I'd say sell it and get something you won't be so worried about so you can really enjoy your college experience. One semester at USC can buy you an S2000, so live it up while you can.
