I have never had a problem with mine here at Cal Poly, but SLO is pretty nice area. I would be somewhat worried about an s2000 at USC because it is in the heart of the ghetto, but like BC said, there are a lot of other nice cars there at the University of Spoiled Children.

Ghetto or not, we have the LEAST amount of major crimes than UCLA or UCI

As long as you don't have enemies, you're OK. Vandalism, stealing, is usually someone you know. That's a fact.
I had an 3000GT, Rx-7 and S2000 in LA for 8 years, and not a single case of crime on my car. I even parked my car on the streets, and in "open" shared garages.
Door Dings.. now thats another story,..

I say keep the S. Just don't leave anything that is "worth" stealing in your car.
However maybe you should invest in a high quality stealth alarm. More importantly a 2 way pager type of alarm. I installed a stealth alarm on my S with a few tricks and that keeps me less worried.

Heard way to many horror stories about campus parking lots, almost guaranteed someone will F^% with your car.

Personally I hated driving the S in LA. The road conditions are horrible and you'll get dings and dents everywhere. It's literally inevitable! I don't even know where to start with my long track record. If you can afford it, get a DD. If not, make sure you park in the new parking structure. It's much safer.
