Default Road Trip

I remember reading a while back where someone took a long road trip from LA to San Fran, then back down. Reason i'm asking is I'm thinking of taking a weekend driving trip. I can go up to san jose area or down to san diego area or further. Just wanted to know what are the places to stop by and where to stay, prolly a 2-3 day trip?

I have browsed the net but havn't found a good trip plan. Anyone has any suggestions? places to stay, eat, look, rest, everything and anything....

I want some fresh air and need to drive. any info would be great.. thanks again.

I did trip from LA up PCH & 101 , into yosemite, then out to the coast & back down PCH. Preferable is a loop going 14 & 395 then THRU yosemite, but you can't enter yosemite from the East (Tioga Pass) due to snow closure.

My rec would be go up PCH, coffee in Montecito, eventually get on 101 and then head into yosemite near Madera, but there may be too much snow. Mariposa is a good stopping point. Gas up fully before going into Yosemite. Then go out to Monterey, take a picture of your S near the "curvy road next 72 miles" sign early in the AM on a weekday, and go.

DO NOT miss a tiny scenic TWISTY road (like 5-10 mph in places) from Cambria that connects I think to 46 , maybe its called Santa Rosa Creek Road.

I'd say don't try to stay along the main part of PCH from Monterey to San Luis Obispo - to me it seemed crowded & expensive, but this is off season. See the elephant seals near San Simeon. Somewhere near Big Sur is a cool waterfall that flows basically into the ocean, but it's not well marked so you have to look for a tiny metal plaque. (Anyone have info?). I stayed in a hotel in Cayucos, it seemed preferable to Morro Bay, but close to Morro Bay.

Have fun!

Do you have AAA Membership? They have pre-planned routes along the coast with rest/scenic stops, hotels, etc.
