I was there Monday, and the bear was in that box frame which was covered by a thick tarp looking thing, with a cable lock on the bottom. It said "the bear is hibernating" on canvas.

As a UCLA alum, I actually think this is great. The rivalry between the schools, kept in perspective, really makes the football season more fun. My hat is off to the people who figured out how to get around the security to pull this off.
There have been a lot of memorable attempts to pull pranks over the years, but my favorite is the 1981 (unsuccessful) attempt to drop paint on Tommy Trojan from a helicopter.
To the other Anderson grad who posted on this thread...
To BC, who I'm guessing will chime in, and/or, edit this post somehow...

"The bruin statue was protected with an anti-paint coating for situations such as this."
The hell is that, astroglide? Astroglide on Tommy Trojan, now that would be funny.

Well played toejams, need to give credit where credit is due. Our stupid Bruin Security Force for sure muffed on this one. At least your deplorable act of paint-flinging on poor Joe will sponsor a new and improved cage for him and our lackadaisical young Bruins will be back on full guard next year. Btw, revenge comes in yearly cycles, so I hope you guys are on alert throughout rivalry week 2010.
Go Bruins.
Go Bruins.
