Default Question about selling a car

I know you have to give the VIN when selling a car, but how safe is it? What personal info can they get? Or what info in general will they get?

Never really sold a car and given a VIN, so if somebody can chime in, it'll be great!

Good questions. I can't help you - I've never sold a car. Always donated them to a charity.

Don't worry.. I've sold cars for years.... Not all advertising companies require vin info? What are you trying to accomplish?

I doubt they could possibly get any more information than they would from your license plate..

Yea if you give out the plate # u might as well give the vin. I used this site to get one when I didn't have the other.

http://www.smogcheck.ca.gov/vehtests/pubtstqry.aspx

Some ppl are afraid that the plate / vin can be used to find the address the car is registered at. Prolly need a DMV inside man for that.
