check craigslist.org for shortterm housing? I'm up and down from Arcadia to OC about 1-2 times a week... it's all about timing as there is construction on the 57/60 interchange, the 57/91 interchange always sucks, and 57/5 (orange crush) isn't good either. When's there are Angel's games it's worse... check sigalert to try to get the timing down. Good luck man!

I live in Pasadena and work in Irvine, so I feel your pain. I leave home in the morning at 5:45 and can make it to Irvine by 7. Leave work at 4:30 and am home by 6. I have tried all the different routes and have found that the 5 is the best way to go. For each 5 minutes that I leave late, it makes 15 minutes difference getting home/to work.
Good luck. Puts a hell of a lot of miles on the car...

I've been making the drive from Glendale to Irvine for almost 4 years now. It's not too bad if you avoid driving during rush hour. That means leaving by 5:45 at the latest in the morning or waiting until 10 or 11. On the return trip, you'll want to leave about 4:00 or so, or wait until 8. I do the later one myself. Leave between 10 and noon and come come between 8 and 10. Crazy accidents notwithstanding, the drive is usually about an hour. SigAlert is your friend. Use it regularly to check traffic before you leave. There are lots of little freeway detours you can take to avoid major slowdowns or accidents if you have to.

So about an hour and 15 that doesnt seem toooo bad. It's only for 2 months, maybe shorter if I get this project done faster. I should be alright. I mapquested it, and it says to take the 405N. to the 605N. To the 5N. Exit Western.
55N->5N -- This one will likely always be slowest for you, unless there's a major backup on the 605. The 5N between the 91 and 605 tends to get very backed up.
405N->710N->5N -- Best alternate if the 605 is backed up or the 5 between 605 and 710. Adds about 5 miles on, but can shorten drive times in bad traffic.
405N->110N->5N -- A little longer still. Adds about 10 miles on from the route mapquest gave you. This one works well if you need to avoid the 5 though. The 110 dumps you off right before the Western exit, so you can skip any backups on the 5 (and there are a lot sometimes)
