Philosophy Question
I have a philosophy essay due in about 2 weeks and i am planning to do it on The Simpsons and Philosophy but i don't know what i should be talking about or should i be comparing philosophers and the characters? Or something along the line of that. I am stuck and i've been thinking but havent come up with any solutions that will make this essay easy. Any inputs would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks

i wrote a few papers on the simpsons and philosophy. but that was years ago and i no longer have them around. i remember one was on america as an imperialist nation as seen in the simpsons. it was a bad essay and i was wrong...but...whatever...
i used the aforementioned book (a collection of essays). as i look over the book i remember that it is a very easy read. for example one essay gives a synopsis of Aristotelean Virtue and compares it to what say homer has done in certain situations. begging the question: is homer ultimately virtuous.
i do take issue with the book, as a fan of philosophy and fan of the simpsons, the two aren't completely symbiotic or intertwined. the authors do take some liberties to make their respective points.
for example, one author talks about lisa and liberalism. and how she loves to be a "radical" of sorts: jazz music, vegetarian, environmentalist, etc... but it doesn't mention however that lisa also loves ponies, violence (itchy and scratchy) and capitalism to a point.
that's what i'd write about; that contradiction. throw in some junk about plato's forms and there you go, ten page essay.
you might have to cite some episodes and sections from either the simpson's philosophy book and sections from a philosopher or two you are expounding on.
oh i just thought of another one. it's not mentioned in the book, but you could write about how moe the bartender is in a state of existential dread; a Kafkaesque character who is misunderstood and lonely.
i know, it's not fair or fun to write papers like this. especially if you don't have a background in either subject. but i'll tell you how cool it is to look at a movie or tv show or read a book and combine philosophical ideas with them, it just enhances the material so much; you'll see things in different lights, perspectives and ...yeah.
good luck with the essay.
