Well, I took the S out today, and since I'm planning the Run, I figured I'd scope it out. It was absolutely beautiful! Perfect weather, nice open roads, best fun I've had driving so far. Lots of bikers though. Lots. Its like their Mecca or something. (Gee I wonder why? )Anyways, heres the preliminary details for the Palomar Run.
Date: April 26 (Last Saturday of April)
Meeting Around 12 or 12:30
Where: We'll meet around the North County Mall, either in one of the parking lots or a gas station right by.
From the Mall, we'll go up Bear Valley Parkway, then right onto Lake Wohlford Road, and then right again onto Valley Center Road. Then we'll get onto the 78 and go east to S6 (The Front Face) and go up to the top. Theres a little shop at the top we can stop at and refresh ourselves. After that, we'll head down the back of the mountain (a great scenic drive) and head down along Lake Henshaw, then jump onto Mesa Grande road (another nice scenic drive) and end up in Santa Ysabel. In Santa Ysabel, we can stop at the Julian Pie Company shop, and get some very very good pie. Then we'll take Julian Road into Ramona and then take either the 67 or 78 out. Its about a 3 hour drive, so I suggest you bring a little cooler with a gatorade or too in the trunk, and maybe some chapstick and sunscreen.
Also possibly meeting up with the Pines to Palms run!
I'll print out maps of the trip and hand them out when we meet in case you're confused
