Default Palm Desert... what to do?

So I'll be taking a trip to Palm Desert with my gf this upcoming week and wondered if anyone has any recommendations on places to see/visit, shopping venues, and places to eat (more romantic the better!).

It looks like a place for some good R&R but I was looking into random tours and what not but it seems like it will be WAY too hot for any of those. Are spa's, shopping, eating, and lounging around the recommended activities? I was looking for a relaxing trip but at the same time I don't want it to be too boring.

Thanks!

Where are you staying? The JW Marriott is a pretty badass hotel but the rooms are meh. The Esmeralda is very nice.

I usually eat at Morton's off Cook and Country Club with the lady when I'm in town because of their $99 for 2 deal. For breakfast/lunch go to Goody's Cafe soooo good. there are 3 right around that area.

For stuff to do... go golfing, go to the river (mall), drink, relax.
