Default OVERHEAT!

Hi guys,

I got this problem... my car would overheat from time to time, usually when i hop on the freeway before fully warming up (driving at low rpm for 5-10 min after 3 bars), regardless of the weather. I noticed that when the car is in "overheat-mode," the heater does not blow hot air, as if the coolant is not cycling. This only happens on the freeway (constant high RPM). If i get off the freeway and drive around the city again, something kicks in at the heater goes hot and the temp drops down to normal... When this first happened, i turned off the engine and noticed that the reservoir under the hood his close to the brim, way past the 'max' mark on the bottle.

I've already replaced the stock thermostat with a mugen unit and changed the coolant and bled the system. I've bleed the system repetely now, and there is constantly air in there. It seems like air is getting somehow. I did a vacuum check on the system and it holds 20lbs vacuum no problem.

Any ideas? Waterpump?? Blown/leaky head gasket?

The oil looks fine (no foaming/milkyness), spark plugs look dirty as usual. No coolant loss.

Can anyone refer me some someone who might know what my problem is?

how did you flush your radiator? did you add more coolant after a day or 2?

sorry thats the only thing i can think of, air in the system..
It wasnt a true 'flush' ... just a coolant replacement. I did it according to the service manual.

This is an ongoing thing. I've topped it off just recently from the heater filler (by the firewall) which is the highest point on the cooling system. I basically left the rad cap off, the bleeder by the intake manifold open, and filled from the heater pipe until the radioator overflowed (then i capped it), then the bleeder overflowed (closed the valve), then when the heater pipe, from which i was filling, overflowed. Still get air in the system after a few days.
