Default oil pan issues

yesterday in auto class i changed my diff/tranny/motor oil. i notice after i change the fluids. oil was leaking. i told the instructer and lifted the car back on the hoist. and notice it was leaking from the bolt. we took off the bolt and the bolt was stiped.. the shop man replace it and said he put in a new thread. the instructer checked and it wasnt leaking. so i drove home with no problem. i woke up today and notice a very tiny oil drops on the drive way. i notice the bolt way leacking a little bit of oil. car was parked for 12hrs and it is a quarter size puddle.
so is this common with s2k? could i use sealer meanwhile i find a oil pan thanks

This is not common with the S2K to my knowledge....

It sounds like you simply stripped the oil pan out by over-tightening. Probably shouldn't be working on your own stuff if this kinda thing is happening.

I'm not sure how he put in a new thread but I have a couple ideas about what he might have done to accomplish this. I suggest you have a professional take a look and figure out what he did to re-tap/helicoil etc. new threads in and be sure it's done right.

thanks.
i never had any problem with oil changes but then again i had a integra and a prelude. i was careful when i thighten the bolt. i thighten it enough to the point where it was snug.

Just out of habit, I always use a torque wrench on mine. For some reason it gives me greater peace-of-mind.

You probably just overtightened it and stripped it... I usually just make sure it's snug enough on there that it won't fall off. As for your question, this is NOT a common problem with S2ks.

The oil pan is probably cast and as a result very weak.

If you're sure of your handy skills than I suppose I'd blame the person before you who last tightened it down, or it was cross-threaded, in any case we now need to know how he put a "new thread" in.

Did he use an insert like a helicoil? Or did he tap it out to a bigger size? You need to keep in mind that you'll want oil bolt sized bolts if possible, this way you can use common things like washers/magnetic bolts for your drain plug.

Ask how he re-threaded and we'll go from there on what the next step is in solving this if it's still leaking.

I don't tq anything but head bolts and VERY key components, everything else get's the "goodntight", but I can feel threads getting stressed before they strip, it's a matter of rotation vs head of bolt tension. As the bolt head bottoms out you have to expect X amount of extra turning before the threads start to strip.
