Sorry guys but what is happening to your car is mechanically impossible. The engine and trans are two totally different entities. Lets say, for the sake of argument that the engine runs a lot stronger after an oil change, like some of you say. By running stronger it will put more stress on the mainshaft and in turn put more stress on the synchros when shifting. So theoretically it should be even more notchy if anything, but what do I know?

Not trying to burst anyone's bubble but it looks like mind over matter to me.

My 2 cents.

Does anything get lubed (as standard service procedure) that would make a difference???? Probably not. But like meth, I was not LOOKING to feel something different, but I immediately noticed it...

VERY weird, I know.

The trans is a sealed unit so there is really nothing serviceable but the fluid itself. Norhing to lube or adjust. It's just your car saying "thanks for caring for me".

well, i completely agree with you that it is mechanically impossible. i don't have any explanation for it. BUT, it is what it is. long (months)before this thread was even started was when i noticed this. i remember thinking "...damn, i hate that 1-2 grind when the car is cold" it was chronic and happened all the time when the car was cold, as the transmission warmed up it disappeared.

so, i change my oil. days go by and after about a week is when i notice "wtf... i haven't had that grind in a while." as i thought back, the only thing i had done to my car since it disappeared was change the motor oil. BTW... i don't claim the engine was running stronger, that is judgement, the grind disappearing was fact.

i don't discount your expertise, and i have no technical answer. i am simply stating my observation. again, it was no placebo effect because i was not initially looking to remedy my 1-2 grind by changing my motor oil, all i wanted to do was simply change the oil, which i use the same oil all the time. so it wasn't like i switched to royal purple and was waiting for a reason to justify my buying it.

i am starting to get the grind back though. you are welcome to witness this phenomenon if you like. i had asked you about the 30k service at some point i will need to get it done. i am at 32k right now.

If it really does make the notchy feeling go away for you guys, then more power to ya. I was just chiming it because I thought you guys might want an opinion from someone who plays with with honda oil and grease all day for a living.

I don't think we'll ever find an explanation for this but hey, whatever works.
