With that said, I agree it's a safety concern to the US. It's just not as easy as Greg thinks it is to solve.
It would be "easier" if we had our guys here instead of in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The deployment of the National Guard could not put a meaningful dent in immigration or drug trafficking. What makes you think they would consider military action?
My point is that the government has not done anything real or drastic to resolve what is clearly a major issue. And the scattering of National Guard "supposedly" is just a dog-and-pony show. This "war," just like any other major war, is big business. And none of the ones benefitting want it to ever end. They pay none of the costs, and bear all of the profits.

It's unfortunate to know that I have met a few people in the last couple of weeks that sold their properties and businesses in Mexico for a better life in the US. All because this is exactly what many believe to be true in Mexico.
I feel sorry for such people. They believe this because it's the truth. Here, we're too blinded by all the "drugs" and distractions that we have to care about anything meaningful (in general).

My last words.
The biggest consumer of meth is white folk. If people stopped using drugs, the cartels would have nothing to sell. Maybe we should be looking within our walls instead of out.
No demand, no supply.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/North_American_Union
excerpt:
In 2005, claims emerged from critics of North American integration that a "North American Union" was not only being planned, but was being implemented by the governments of Canada, Mexico, and the United States. These critics cited the formation of the Security and Prosperity Partnership of North America and claimed it was an attempt to dramatically alter the economic and political status quo between the countries outside of the scrutiny of the respective national legislatures, a critique heightened by the subsequent publication of the Independent Task Force on North America report which praised the SPP initiative and called for greater economic integration by 2010.[5][15]
While a broad spectrum of observers criticize the secrecy of the SPP and its dominance by business groups,[20] the specific claim that its true aim was to expand NAFTA into a North American Union analogous to the European Union (EU), with open borders and a common currency among other features, was being made by the fall of 2006, when conservative commentators Phyllis Schlafly, Jerome Corsi and Howard Phillips started a website dedicated to quashing what they perceived as the coming North American "Socialist mega-state."[9]
The belief that a North American Union was being planned and implemented in secret became widespread, so much so that the NAU was a topic of debate during the 2008 American presidential campaigns and the subject of various U.S. Congressional resolutions[21][22] designed to thwart its implementation. Prominent critics such as CNN’s Lou Dobbs[23] and Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul[24] denounced the concept, joined by a nationalist group in Canada,[25] Internet blogs, and widely viewed videos and films such as "Zeitgeist". Corsi’s 2007 book "The Late Great USA: The Coming Merger with Mexico and Canada" also helped bring the NAU discussion into the mainstream. Others who dismiss these beliefs maintain they are the latest example of a long line of erroneous conspiracy theories which suggest that the United States’ sovereignty is being eroded by a secret cabal of foreign and domestic players.[5][9]

Not knocking it all. I am aware of the benefits of a hemispheric union.
I heard about many changes that were to happen in Mexico after Fox met with Bush Jr. before 9/11. Too bad none of that came to fruition.

Actually, I posted it to point out how a situation like this drug "war" could be used as justification for such a union, something that I would be greatly opposed to. I happen to think that sovereign countries should remain sovereign countries, especially ones that are neighbors. Mexico seems to get this when dealing with their southern neighbors. The only one that they want to be united with is the one to their north.

Yup, that and the FTA with China. I can't believe no one called out Clinton for that. Hello, connect the dots. The state where he was governor, and the Fortune 500 company based there, and how much they have benefitted from that FTA. Our consumption (see the parallel here) has made what used to be a 3rd-world nation, into the 2nd largest economy in the world. We are so getting played, it's not even funny.

You're not honestly arguing it's better are you?
It's like a 3rd world country there.
