Hello All, I don't know where else but to goto my S2ki community resources (IE: You guys ). My GF just bought an Audi TT MY00 and It passed smog and everything fine EXCEPT! it didnt pass the MalFunction Light (Failed) Which made the whole test fail!! The Mechanic said they couldn't get the computer to communicate w/ the ODB2 plug and thats it so they pressed cancel and continued with the smog check and thus equals the Fail. Can anyone make something of this? Should I goto an Audi Dealer? Or ?????????




Visual Inspection: Pass
Emissions Test: Pass
Functional Check: Fail

Malfunction Indicator Light: Fail

This vehicle failed the MIL/Check Engine Light due to OBD communications failure.

yeah your car can pass every 5 gas test but if there is a light they must not pass the car. a check engine light can be anything from a defective 02 sensor to faulty timing. if either one of those components are at fault the car will still pass the 5 gas portion because of catalytic converter efficeintcy being able to mask the problem. if the smog shops scan tool could not read the code you might have to use an audi specific tool.

hit up the audi boards and have someone VAG it to find the specifics of the problem..or u can hit up crazy joes next to the spugen shop and he can VAG it but i'm not sure if he'll do it free of charge or do it at a small fee.

Thanks for the replies! While smogging the car, The check engine light never came on and was never on to begin with. When they plugged the OBD 2 connector into my car the computer said it couldnt communicate with it, Thus me failing period. I passed the emissions part with flying colors. I hope this helps clear up some confusion. Do you have that number for the VAG man? That would help a bunch also thanks.

I know I know, jus givin you a hard time. Was the obd2 scanner audi specific or was it a general one?
