Default New S2000 only track competition

We are organizing an exhibition run of a new s2000 only competition on Dec 30th alongside the Attack on Streets of Willow event. It will be held with Extremespeed track events (also called XS) and is open to all s2000 drivers from beginners to regulars. The two classes to compete in are Group N and Group A. Group N represents no aerodynamic parts, or stock CR models. Group A allows aero parts.

Group N
No Aftermarket wing or splitter. Lips and trunk spoilers allowed. Tires of treadwear (UTQG) 140 or more. No forced induction.
Cr models must also adhere to front OEM size wheels (17 inches x 7 inches wide) or smaller.

Group A
One of these three are allowed: 1) Aftermarket wing and/or splitter 2) Forced induction 3) Tires of treadwear 80-139

A brief history on Group N and Group A from the 80's:

This is a series designed with minimum rules to allow maximum freedom. Rules regarding things like suspension enhancements, interior modification, engine bolt ons, etc. will be largely unrestricted because I'm too lazy to dig into other people's personal cars

Winners are determined by fastest time of the day. In the morning, look for the s2000 sign up sheet and record your name and car color before entering the track. Before the last session of the day (about 4:00 pm), record your official laptime on that same sheet next to your name.

The winners from Group N and Group A will receive half off entry to XS's next event in January!
Participants must register online or pay the extremespeed trackday fee upon arrival.

Still intereted? We plan to run a short spring series as outlined below:

XS plans to run a Best 3 of 5 series for s2000's between January and June of 2013. Maximum points can be scored by attending as few as 3 events, but more attendance improves your chances. There are XS events at Streets of Willow Springs track, and Redline Time Attack events at other tracks. Events at Streets of Willow will generally be on Sundays, and events at other tracks will generally be Saturdays. Tentative schedule is below:

January 20 Streets of Willow (Sunday)
February 16 Buttonwillow 13CW (Saturday)
March 23 Big track at Willow Springs (Saturday)
May 4 Chuckwalla Valley Raceway (Saturday)

2013 Track Events

Big Track at Willow Springs on June 15th or 16th.

Series points for first place, second, third, and so forth will be as follows:
9, 6, 4, 3, 2, 1, 1...
BUT choosing an official laptime from session 4 gives that participant 1 bonus point, no matter how slow. This ups the maximum for a single event to 10 points, and the minimum for simply participating to 2 points. Highest points total from any 3 events will determine a participant's series ranking, with tie-breakers going to laps from event(s) that tied participants both competed in.

IF I was going to attend this event, I "only" have a stock S. If there are no restrictions on modifications, then others will have a mechanical advantage over any stock set up. Why bother trying to outrun someone with better tires or suspension set up, let alone power mods?

Isn't it a fact of life that there are many situations that leave you at a disadvantage:
first time at football tryouts, first math class in college, talking to girls at the club, etc...

Even under the guise of "stock" there are variable advantages: new tires vs old, more camber vs less, CR model vs ap1, high miles vs low, years of experience vs first time, private instruction vs learning on your own, soft top vs hard top, salvage title vs clean, full gas tank vs near empty, etc...

For a $90 trackday, and the chance to win half off your next event, I think it's extremely difficult to find a better value. There is another trackday organization that has a category for "more stock" s2000s, but even winning those events will still cost you more money that merely participating in this one.

If all you want is a competition where your car is the maximum possible performing vehicle, isn't that also admitting your driving abilities leave room for improvement? Time trials is not the same as drag racing, or doing freeway pulls. Driver mod is still the most important factor.

Just come out and have fun! Everyone goes to improve their driving skill, no one out of the box is going to be a pro racing driver. It all takes practice and you will get better, faster over time while slowly modding your car to be more competitive. This is a great price to go and see what you/your car are capable of.

Because you might find out that the driver of that heavily modded car has no clue how to either mod *or* drive (or both). Just because the car is more capable (if well configured) doesn't mean the driver knows what to do with it. :-)

You'll discover that the driver mod is the most important mod. Do you think you can pilot the Evasive s2k around SoWS faster than a veteran in a stock car?
