I second the revolving bar/restaurant at the Bonaventure.

I'd say hands down one of the romantic places in LA is Il Cielo in Bev Hills on Burton Way. Small, quiet, romantic and excellent food and wine list.

Some other excellent options:
- Les Deaux Cafe (Bev Hills)- French
- Asia de Cuba- West Hollywood on Sunset strip- Asian Cuban fusion- very fancy shmancy trendy spot and you can get drinks afterwards at Sky Bar
- Cicada (downtown LA)- were the restaurant scene in Pretty Woman was filmed
- The Water Grill- downtown LA- best seafood in town
- R23- downtown LA- some of the best sushi in town- Yamashiro is romantic but sushi is not great

These are all pull out the stops places so if this is a first date, I would not recommend.

I'd recommend Zagats.com for good reviews- PM me if you want to use my username

Good luck!

A fantastic recommendation. The wife and I have been there and we highly recommend it (despite the drive).

Mr. Stox used to be very good. I haven't been there in 10+ years but Zagats should be able to tell you if it's still any good and its not that far from you in Westminster.

Pinot Provence by South Coast Plaza is nice.

French 75 or Splashes in Laguna Beach are usually good safe bets. French 75 is a replica of a Parisian Champagne bar and Splashes is in the Surf and Sand hotel and has a awesome view and more of a laid back beach thing going on (although it aint cheap and the wine list is very good).

If you're willing to make an adventure of it, there are some great eateries in San Diego or La Jolla/Del Mar that you could take the train down to and make a real adventure out of it. While I'm an old married man, in my younger days I could tell you that a romantic train ride followed by an oceanfront dinner always worked.

There's so many choices, I could type forever. What kind of food are you looking for? Atmosphere? Dress requirements? Maybe that would help us narrow it down for you.

I agree with Yamashiros. I proposed to my wife there. The place is romantic and cool but the Japanese food is only OK.

Try the Bottle Inn in Hermosa Beach as well. http://www.thebottleinn.com

Right on the Strand. Little tiny place, great Italian food and a wine cellar that will blow your mind. You can even get the table in the wine cellar if you call ahead.

You wouldnt be into taking her to a jazz club right? There are quite a few around the hollywood/studio city area that have good food, wine/other drinks and the music is soothing. Baked potato and catalinas are a few.....
