Not being late is good, however there is more to it than that, if you pay off your entire balance once in a while then use the card again it shows good faith activity and history.
I had a high balance when I bought the Mugen CF hardtop, but paid it all off by the end of the following month or when I know my 0% rate will end.

Why not transfer balances to a 0% credit card for a year?

No balance to transfer sometimes since I try to maintain a zero balance on most of my cards, but utilize activity to show good history.

Also a balance transfer fee incurrence would hinder that action for me. Even at 0% I prefer a no fee on anything if at all possible.
