LA is pretty huge.
Technically its from the valley all the way to the harbor. That being said, i'm near the harbor area. San Pedro's not bad at all. Torrance (while not LA) is safe, has some fierce police, could be bad though, as they make it a daily habit to hand out fix-its.

That's tough to answer without knowing more specifics about you. You have many things to consider: purchase or rental prices, commute time, whether you like hot or mild climates, what cultures you prefer to be near, etc.

There are good spots and bad spots all over SoCal. You need to get your feet on the ground and check it out yourself - you'll see what I mean.

Give us your working address, and we can help you out.

Also: what type of apt, rooms, amenities.. etc and how much $$$ you got.

Where are you going to work? If you're so well off you don't have to work, you can come live with us. La Crescenta is a lovely little foothill community.

Yeah, especially since I'm assuming you mean "the LA area" as opposed to LA proper, which could then include LA County, Orange County, Riverside, San Bernadino, and parts of Ventura County. There are tons of good (and bad) areas to live in all of these, and depending on what you want to do and what you are looking for, you could be quite happy in any one of them. What kind of job will you be looking for? How far are you willing to commute? What kind of budget do you have to live on? Would you rather be near the beach or the mountains? Do you want easy to access to theaters/sporting events/concerts? Do you like having a night life w/ bars and clubs, or would you prefer a quieter community. The area is so huge, you can't really pick one place to live and be able to get everywhere easily from there.

The most important piece of the puzzle is where you will be working. I commute 50 miles each way to work, and trust me, you don't want to have to drive as much as I do every day of the week.

FYI for YellowFever: 50 mile commute = about 10 hrs!
