Angry mis-shift scare

ok, on july 6th, on my way home, i mis-shifted.
i had just gotten off the freeway and i was already in 5th gear. i usually shift gears quickly to save on gas, usually around 3500 rpm. so when i was in 5th, i know i wasnt revving that high.

anyways, there was a van next to me and the road ahead of me was merging. i was trying to down shift into 4th when it went into 2nd!

when i released the cluth, the revs went right up. as i was lifting, i knew right away that the revs were shooting up way too fast. i did push in the clutch right away but not before the revs hit redline. i dont know how much over. it was very quick.

i didnt get a chance to see how fast i was going (i know this would help) but maybe some of you guys can estimate with the information that i provided.

i read some post in car talk and some links that were in the posts and now it has me thinking. a fellow member has lots of power and response but his car is having major problems. i am showing no symptoms

the car runs fine. i think it actually runs stronger than it did before the over rev. i currently have 1700 mi and i think i had 900 miles when this occured.

do you think i need to get the car checked? a lot of the guys were saying that the problem can occur in a couple of hours, days, weeks or months.

i thought i was cool but now i am worried...

PM SUPERTECH,

Do a compression. Do a Leak Down. If this fails, you might have a bent valve. Bent valves does not necc. show up in 1 day, CEL or weeks. It Could be months.

besides a bent valve, do you think there could be other problem parts?

If the valve is bent, it can drop to the lower block, and the whole motor is gone. If you detect it early, a new head is all you need

what are the chances that my car may actually be fine?

are all over revs screwed?

or is there a chance when i get tested that i may come out ok?

That's why you need a compression test and a leak down to see if it's ok.
