My heart aches for you and your family. We had a brother and sister Cardigan Welsh Corgi for most of my boyhood and I was with them when we had to put them down (both developed cancer within one year of one another). We had a good 12 and almost 13 years with them but those were some of the darkest days of my life.
My wife and I now are "owned" by a 3 year old male English Bulldog. And while I know that bullies don't live long, I can't imagine being without him and I know I'll fall apart on that day.
Dogs become part of the family. They have their own unique brand of love, affection, loyalty and respect that many folks who don't have dogs in the home can't understand.
My heartfelt condolences to you. I hope PJ went quickly and I hope you can find a way to remember all the good times and not these sad times.
