Default Loud Ticking, Valve area.... however...

Vtech solenoid??? I pulled it out recently it was clean.

The ticking happens when the car is hot usually. It'll kinda come and go as I rev. I thought it was the starter sticking perhaps but I hear it from the valve cover and I think toward the front.

I've tapped on the solenoid, no change really. Sometimes it'll go away completely and come back and go away again in a few seconds time. It's a bit odd. I'm thinking Vtec solenoid or related issue. Anyone have some info on it?

no it always ticked...this is LOUD like clicking.... VERY loud. Not as fast either. I can almost mimic the sound with tongue its that slow. The valve ticking is way fast and quieter.

Timing chain tension or rod knock.

Sometimes the rod knock on the S sounds like a top end ticking. It resonates through the timing chain area. Get a thesascope and trace the sound.

god....thats freaking me out. I thought perhaps the same thing. except it'll completely go away and come as I slightly rev or as the engine temps etc. change.

I considered rod knock as a possibility. I guess i'll have to scope it. The timing chain tensioner I pulled out a bit ago and it was ok.

I've been driving a few days on it. Nothing else seems outa place really. What is interesting is i BELIEVE it started a week or two ago, When I'd start the car I'd hear it crank over and it sounded like the starter was partially engaged. Then it'd go away after a few seconds, this is what has made me comfortable enough to drive it. The fact that you just said rod knock and the fact that it is sounding like the FRONT of the valve cover is a bit scary since it did cross my mind.

I'm gonna have to find a scope now.

yes, asuming im not going much faster then 2nd or 3rd gear. I can hear it echo off curbs etc.

a few times I could give it a big rev while in neautral and then it'd go away.....but maybe a min later it'd come back.....or sometimes not. This is why I thought....vtec?
