i don't get why people are confused about the braking mid corner on a bike being a bad thing. the same rules of physics aply whether you ride a bike or drive a car. get all the braking done before the corner. the last thing you want to do is upset the balance of the bike/car mid corner when pushing the limits. the problem with a bike is that it is damn near impossible to correct a slide. especially on pavement. i am sure that someone whith racing backround could do it, but i am yet to see anyone correct and unintentional side on a street bike.

That's what I always thought: all the braking and shifting done before a turn.

Exactly.

This is pretty much the case, without a lot of track time you'll simply down the bike or have to at least spend a moment to correct it if you're lucky.

A little trail braking through a corner is fine and dandy but for 99% of people they'd be better off braking first and accelerating out of the turn hard and making their time up there. Simply safer.

I'd bet my lunch money that he got a ticket. Probably could have been written a few at that.

Only if he was speeding and it didn't look like he was going that fast. Cop could have checked him for a loud pipe or insurance though. You don't get a ticket for dropping your bike, just sympathy or laughs ...
