K&N Filter = BAD BAD BAD!
Being I've been riding off-road motorcycles for 22 years I know that K&N is a horrible filter in terms of protecting your engine and only decent in terms of flow. I've been through probably 40 or so off-road motors in my lifetime and rebuilt each one of em. I've also done a few of my own tests on my bikes and friends simply putting a dap of bel-ray marine grease in intake tract behind the filter to see what particles make it through. I know a foam/oil filter is hands down the best for flow and for keeping the intake spotless in the worst of dusty days. Only draw back is it must be cleaned regularly (I mean even weekly in a car) which takes me 5 minutes or so and some nasty thick oil too. I use this on my S and the intake is clean enough to eat off from.
You can see in the purple columns how much dirt is passed, K&N is the worst of them all except Uni. *btw Uni makes a decent foam/oil product though that I've used for years on many bikes*
Of all the air filters tested in a very scientific (ISO) study, the K&N proved to be the worst of them all. It passed an alarming amount of dirt in the study, one reason I stopped using my K&N air filter. Even before I saw the below test results, I had noticed a lot of grime and crap was getting past my K&N which is why I ended up installing a K&N Outerwears pre-filter. When that wasn't quite enough, I then added a second-prefilter on top of the Outerwears, a foam Unifilter. I eventually removed my K&N air filter, it just wasn't an adequate air filter for the dusty desert conditions I wheel in.
Quoting from that report for the below chart...
"In the chart above it’s important to note the different test durations for each filter. The AC Delco filter test ran for 60 minutes before exceeding the restriction limit while the AMSOIL and K&N tests each ran for 20 and 24 minutes respectively before reaching max restriction. In 60 minutes the AC Filter accumulated 574gms of dirt and passed only 0.4gms. After only 24 minutes the K&N had accumulated 221gms of dirt but passed 7.0gms. Compared to the AC air filter, the K&N “plugged up” nearly 3 times faster, passed 18 times more dirt and captured 37% less dirt."

It should be obvious to people since when you hold a K&N in sunlight you can physically see the holes of sunlight shine through. @ people who actually thought this was an effective filter.

^ Link is old... no good.
Pics? look at the graph it's a ISO test so you know its legit compared to ones done by manufactures.
Pics of my own you mean? I didn't bother documenting em, or maybe I did but I certainly can in the future if you'd like to see. Thing is I don't want to run a K&N just to show how much dust made it through one of my cars. To do that test you have to .......let dust into your motor. LOL

Fix the link and where are the pics? Filter's not gonna do that much anyways on a small NA 4 banger.
How does that matter........ at all?
