I used to commute from Redondo Beach to Northridge. That is probably the worse commute in So Cal, getting there or home in 1.5hrs is a very good day. My commute pretty much starts right where the traffic starts to build up and it does not let up until I got there. 1.5 hrs was with my backroads and shortcut. I missed my exit to the side streets once and it took me 45mins to travel 1mile to the next exit.

With that said, 1hr commutes I can do, but anything more than that, really takes a toll on you physically and mentally. By the time you get to work, you are in a bad mood and start the day off on the wrong foot. After a long day, you deal with a very long commute. I had to have a beer or two or a glass of wine when I got home from work to unwind when I did that commute.
I know about commutes...i am looking for a job as well...unfortunatly the two jobs i am looking at are a long way away from me. One is in Lake Forest and the other is in Woodland Hills (I am in Torrance). so either way i will be dealing with traffic. It sucks but a job is a job right now.

i guess you can say convenience does matter to me. im looking to start a new career with a new company. i want to be happy and love what i do. i think after a few months of commuting, i will most likely get tired of it, not be motivated to go to work and probably end up looking for another job.

how many of you guys spend over 2 hours on the road 5 days a week? what's it like.
I do 2 hours a day for commute. 1-1.25 in each direction depending on the days. Some days it's empty and I can get to work in 20 mins. If you love your job, love what you do, who you work with, the commute is doable. If you're eh about your job, don't really like who you work with, then it's hell. There was a period of time when I hated who i reported to and was starting to dislike my job and i lost motivation to go to work. Started getting lazy and was dreading Mondays and dealing with traffic. Was in a bad mood more often and the day seemed to drag on forever. Recently switched out and I love my boss. Love what I do and who I work with now so I don't think the commute is bad at all. If I could pick up my job and move it to SD, i'd be living the dream
