Whenever cars make contact, try if at all possible to get a witness, even if it's your own passenger or a parking lot security camera. Even better would be to get the other person to sign something saying it was their fault on the spot. (If you're nice to them, it makes them less paranoid you'll ding them for money.)
Most small accidents come down to one person's word against another's, and a witness will help you a LOT. Failing that, detailed photos help; examiners can usually tell when someone was backing up into you versus you hitting them.

Last time I checked a screaming baby didnt equate into not being able to see a bright white car behind you.
Pulling up to a stop sign and putting your burb into reverse -- now that's stupid.

Man sorry to hear about your situation. I actually just got into that same mess except along with the scuff marks, the exhaust of the car that backed into me left a good sized semi-circular scratch on the front of the bumper. Unfortunately, I wasn't as lucky as you when it came to seeing who it was; whoever did it to me decided to run

She said she didnt see me or hear me cuz she had a screamin baby in the car.
I seen this lady in an expidition hit a late 70's celica and killed the poor bastard driving the celica, maybe if she had a few smaller accidents on her insurance she might not have kept the expo and might not have killed that guy.
People in big SUV's drive like the own the F'ing road, no respect for anyone around them, especially women in big SUV's.
But at the same time I drive a Chevy 3500 turbo diesel dualey and these small cars just cut me off like I can stop a 7000 pound truck on a dime.
stupid drivers, pisses me off!!
