How's the job market out there in Socal?
Hey Socal folks
I have been contemplating a move out there (L.A./S.D.) and was wondering what the job market was like out there. I was a finance major in college and am now a business operations analyst for Reliant Energy here in Houston. If I were to secure a position out there, I would definitely take my S and myself out there in a heartbeat.
If anyone has any leads or knows that their company is hiring, please let me know.
Thanks
Matt

why do you want to move to socal? is it because you want to be cool like us? jk. i think most people don't want to move if they already have a secure well paying job. i'm not sure how the market is for someone with a finance background...but just take a look at these sites and maybe you can tell if there's something for you:

Thanks for the links
I am at a point in my life where I would like to have a change of scenary. I've lived in Houston my entire life. The timing would also be good since I am not attached at the moment. The only 2 places that I would consider are Socal and New York. I ruled NY out since I am not a fan of snow and would also not be able to drive.
In my experiences, I've found that the easiest way to get a different job was through referrals. I guess I was hoping to see if any of you guys/gals knew of some openings within your respective companies.

The job market is pretty tough over here, just like it is elsewhere.
I'm in the tech field, and there are a few job openings, but they are for very specific and specialized people. It's not like a few years ago, where there was a job opening every week.
Just FYI, a lot of companies here are not paying for relocation anymore. Keep that in mind when searching.

If you are interested in remaining in finance and are considering the option of changing within the industry, try the mortgage side. It will be strong for the next year and there is money to be made. Particularly if you are fresh out of college with limited work experience. You are ripe for the training and picking.
Contact Robert Mastracco at WMC Mortgage. Pick his brain. He's a recruiter friend of mine. I created the entire program and they are starting to hire for the next round of trainees to start in May. You can find the web site at:

If you want more details, send me a pm w/specific questions.
